Oliver Unaka Commits to Excellence, Enrolls in CSBA Masters in Governance Program for County Boards

EASTVALE, CA – Oliver Unaka, candidate for the Riverside County Board of Education, Trustee Area 1, today announced his enrollment in the California School Boards Association (CSBA) Masters in Governance (MIG) program. This specialized curriculum is designed specifically for County Offices of Education (COEs), emphasizing the unique legal and fiscal responsibilities that differentiate county-level governance from local school districts.

The MIG program is widely recognized as the gold standard for leadership development in California public education. By completing the 60-hour intensive curriculum, Unaka will join an elite group of graduates who have mastered the core principles of effective governance, policy development, and student achievement.

"Serving on the County Board of Education requires more than just a passion for students; it requires a deep, technical understanding of the law, school finance, and our specific role in supporting the county’s most vulnerable youth," said Oliver Unaka. "By completing the Masters in Governance program, I am ensuring that from Day One, I have the tools necessary to provide the high-level oversight and advocacy that Riverside County families deserve."

The MIG for County Offices of Education curriculum consists of four specialized courses:

  • Foundations of Effective Governance: Setting direction and understanding the distinct role of the county board.

  • Policy & Judicial Review: Navigating the board’s appellate role in student expulsions and inter-district transfers.

  • Finance and Facilities: Mastering county-level fiscal oversight and facility management.

  • Community Relations and Advocacy: Building regional partnerships to improve student outcomes.

A proven Commitment to Leadership

This new enrollment serves as an extension of Unaka’s already deep expertise in educational leadership. Unaka has already completed the CSBA Masters in Governance for local Education Agencies (LEAs), a rigorous program focusing on the foundational pillars of school district oversight.

His decision to pursue this additional, county-specific certification underscores a lifelong commitment to being the most prepared advocate for Riverside County. By mastering both district and county governance structures, Unaka ensures a seamless bridge between local school needs and regional support systems.

"Expert governance leads to better outcomes for students," Unaka added. "I am committed to being the most informed representative for Trustee Area 1, and this continued education is a vital part of that promise to our community."
